Last year, two people died and nearly a third of the fleet retired, with Comanche forced out due to a ripped mainsail despite being well-prepared.

For the upcoming race, Master Lock Comanche has invested heavily in upgrades, including a new engine and a mainsail costing over half a million dollars, designed to withstand harsh conditions. The rivalry with two-time reigning champion Law Connect continues, with six super maxis entered and crews ready for intense competition on Boxing Day.

Travelling at 70 kilometres per hour in Bass Strait, race favourites Master Lock Comanche also fell victim. It's a little bit unfortunate and the boat was incredibly prepared and unfortunately we just had a ripped mainsail so this year we're out to redeem ourselves and and give it our best shot. And there's been no expense spared on upgrades, debuting a brand new engine. Needing to replace their mainsail Master Lock Comanche has spent over half a million dollars on this new one which they say is far stronger than the previous and should withstand any conditions the race throws at them. Six super maxis are entered though the rivalry with two-time reigning line honours champion Law Connect lives on. Once you're on the water it's a different program you know it's the rivalry is on but it's a friendly, friendly on the shore. And they're ready to return as the one to be feared come Boxing Day.
