Mark Latham has hit back after parliament revealed it was considering referring him for abuse of parliamentary privilege, accusing Premier Chris Minns of covering up a decades-old sexual harassment case.

The government has responded by stating that the incident in question was investigated and resolved nearly a decade ago, and it rejects all of Latham's current allegations. The situation follows recent tensions between Latham and Housing Minister Rose Jackson, who previously called Latham a 'pig.'

The Upper House will very soon start debating whether to refer Mark Latham to the Powerful Privileges Committee for potential sanction for his apparent abuse of parliamentary privilege. That's an immunity that allows MPs to essentially say what they like in the Chamber. But instead of taking his lumps today, he has come out swinging again, using that parliamentary privilege to raise a decade-old harassment case in the Parliament. Latham is claiming Chris Minns ran a cover-up for his good friend and former ALP General Secretary Jamie Clements. Now, as we reported nine years ago, Clements resigned after being accused of pushing a former Labor staffer against a wall and trying to kiss her. An internal review condemned the party's treatment of women and the matter was resolved out of court. But Mr Latham has essentially brought it up again today to accuse Premier Minns and several of his Ministers of being hypocrites. By the recent standards of the Minns government, he would be described as a pig, or worse. Yet he remains a close personal and family friend of the Premier, Mr Minns, and a friend of Ministers Camper and Rose Jackson. Now, that is a clear sledge at the Housing Minister, Rose Jackson, who called Mark Latham a pig last month. The ruling comes a month after Brazil’s top court ordered the former president to wear an ankle monitor, submit to a curfew and abide by limitations on his activity as legal proceedings investigating an alleged coup plot continue.
