This attack on postal workers and on the Canadian public postal system is unjustifiable. A part of that proposed shift an end to door-to-door mail in Canada. A move pushed by the federal government. Our government's directed Canada Post to take concrete steps. These changes will put Canada Post on a more stable footing, ensuring that it continues to serve Canadians well. But firmly rejected by postal workers. It's just another example of the Liberal government just refusing to agree with workers' rights. It's unclear how long this strike could last, but with deliveries declining and costs on the rise, one thing is certain. The future of Canada Post just got a bit more complicated. The biggest complication, less revenue from mail delivery as losses pile up. Taxpayers are now funding the postal service to the tune of a billion dollars a year and Canadian taxpayers are now paying more and more for a service they're using less and less. Just two billion letters were delivered last year. Compare that to five and a half billion in 2006. There is nothing that registered mail does that a secure digital solution doesn't do better. Still, some say that despite the decline, mail still matters. My son got a notice from Canada Post that his parcel was here yesterday for his wedding tomorrow and I don't think he's going to have that for his wedding tomorrow by the looks of things. And in parts of rural Canada, there's little choice. And now the panic sets in immediately for small business owners especially. We don't have like the big accounts at couriers that we get a huge discount from. And postal workers walked off the job last year too. Forced back to work just before Christmas. So as mail service grinds to a halt for the second time in less than a year, the federal government says it has mediators available to help but no word on if Ottawa might force workers back this time. So Aaron, what is the union asking for? Well, Erica, more money is part of it for sure. Management has offered a raise of 13 percent over four years. The union wants 19. So that's a sticking point. And the union doesn't want to see the big changes proposed this week. So among other things, postal workers aren't happy about an end to door-to-door delivery or the lifting of a moratorium on closing rural post offices.
