Baldwin High School in Long Island has introduced AI-powered patient simulators in its health and medical curriculum, allowing students to practice real-life emergency scenarios. The simulators mimic human responses such as blinking, breathing, and speaking, and enable students to perform procedures like checking pulses, administering medication, and listening to heartbeats.

Students who complete the course earn CPR and first-aid certifications and can receive up to eight college credits by their senior year. The immersive program aims to prepare students for future medical careers by combining advanced technology with rigorous academic instruction.

Welcome back Long Island High School is taking real-world learning to a whole new level. Health and medical students are using robots to simulate real-life emergencies and Fox 5 Jode Goldberg got a first-hand look at how the medical mannequins work. I'm gonna check your pulse make sure everything's normal. It looks like a doctor's office but it's actually a classroom here at Baldwin High School and for these 10th graders the future of medicine is starting now. We try to make it as immersive and realistic as possible. AI powered patient simulators that blink, breathe and even speak are teaching students how to be hands-on and handle high-stress situations. We have pulse, pupil responsiveness, simulates a full circulatory system. We can actually administer medication. They can even check glucose levels. His blood sugar level is too high. And listen for different heartbeats. It's hard to simulate what a normal heart versus an abnormal heart sounds like but with the software that we have coupled with these models we can. Students who take the class leave with their CPR and first-aid certification and by senior year they're earning college anatomy and physiology credits. It is an extremely rigorous course in which they leave with eight college credits from LIU. This is about as real as it gets. How does it prepare students for the real world? We're taking content and we're taking techniques. We're melding together in the classroom to create the future of instruction. Sophomore Shemayo Kibo hopes to be a radiologist. It like makes me more like into medical field and like makes me want to do it more. And Yugo Obasi, a cardiologist. I like this a lot. One of my favorite classes.
