The technology analyzes anonymous data from sources such as cell phones, GPS systems, and car insurance trackers to identify when and where speeding occurs, allowing departments to deploy patrols more effectively.

Officials emphasize that the system does not track individual vehicles or license plates, ensuring privacy for drivers. The adoption of this technology aims to improve safety for residents, particularly during times when children are outside, while supporting but not replacing traditional police work.

Well, everyone wants to feel safe in their home and on the street, so it's understandable when some people are a little scared if they see frequent speeders. Well, now some local police departments are adopting new artificial intelligence technology to respond to calls for speeding cars. Your transportation reporter Caitlin Hunt spoke with local police departments who have started using this new tech. Caitlin, how does it work? Yeah. Hey, good morning, Mike and Tiffany. So this technology comes from the company Urban S. D. K. And with the help of A. I. They can check out the speeds and find out if anyone is speeding down roads. They patrol just like here in Fairview Park along Lorraine Road. And the chief of the Fairview Park Police Department gave me a look at that technology that he says is making a difference with the police department. Almost every street has a speeding problem. At least that's the perception of the residents. That's probably why speeding complaints are the number one call that comes into the Fairview Park Police Department. Every complaint that is given to us, we investigate. We will. We almost always will send a car out to do enforcement, but that takes time and resources. The department doesn't always have. So let me get the pop up here. Stand by. Since the fall, the department has been using A. I. Technology from Urban S. D. K. To track down those speeding cars. We found this tool that sort of just gives us an indication where our problems are, what time our problems are occurring and for us to better allocate our resources using data gathered from cell phones, GPS systems and trackers used for car insurance. The department can hone in on each of the over 100 streets it patrols to figure out if and when speeding happens. Then a patrol officer can be placed at the right place and the right time to catch the speeders. After seeing Fairview Park's growing success with the system since the fall, Olmstead Falls is adopting the new technology to officers are being trained on the new system now, and it should be up and running in the next 30 days. You know, we really think it's a safety issue, especially during school hours, especially with summer coming, you know, kids playing out in the street, things like that. It's gonna really help us identify these areas. We like it a lot. Uh, is it? Is it? But it is a tool. But Fairview Park's chief Shepherd says this technology won't replace the men and women who protect your city and residential streets. But if it helps us keep Fairview Park safer and the motoring public safer and residents safer than we're all for it. And it is also worth noting that all the information that these police departments are seeing is anonymous, so they cannot see individual cars or license plates. So you will not be hunted down for speeding down the street and receive a speeding ticket. But I also reached out to the Millberg Heights Police Department. They said that they have also purchased the same technology, and they're starting to get training on it to Mike Tiffany. Yeah, A. I.
