One of the drones, reportedly carrying explosives, crossed into Lithuanian territory and was believed to have been unintentionally diverted from its original path toward Kiev due to Ukrainian defences.

Lithuanian officials, including the foreign and defence ministers, have held talks with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutter to address the security concerns. The incident is not the first of its kind, as Russian-made drones have previously crossed into Lithuania. In response to ongoing regional tensions and Russia's actions in Ukraine, Lithuania has committed to increasing its defence spending.

Lithuania which also borders Russia's Kaliningrad enclave has committed to a defence spending hike in the face of Russia's aggression in Ukraine.
