In the United States, President Donald Trump's administration has enacted policies targeting the LGBTQ community, including bans on transgender individuals serving in the military and the removal of LGBTQ references from government websites. 

Despite these challenges, the LGBTQ community continues to resist through legal action and public demonstrations. Globally, Pride Month is marked by both celebration and concern, as some countries have enacted restrictive measures, such as the U.K. Supreme Court's decision to exclude transgender women from the legal definition of woman and Hungary's ban on Pride events. Organizers stress that showing up in large numbers is a form of resistance and a statement of existence.

Kamala is for they-them, President Trump is for you. From campaign ads targeting the transgender community to executive orders banning them from military service, Trump has ramped up his attacks against the LGBTQ community, going as far as erasing any mention of them on the White House and several government agency websites. For the organizers of World Pride, the campaign has only increased the celebration's importance. Through World Pride and all the prides that are going to take place, not just here in the United States but around the world, this is the year that we need to ensure that we remain visible and seen so folks know that there's a place for them, that there are people fighting for them. For the LGBTQ community, resistance to Trump's policies is key. Within the U.S., a group of transgender soldiers are challenging the executive order banning them in the military in court. Abroad, some are making the difficult decision to skip the celebration altogether to avoid problems at the border. Meanwhile, others privilege showing up. Visibility is resistance. When you say that we no longer exist and then we show up in hundreds of thousands of numbers, then it defies this narrative that you have that we don't exist. The World Pride March is scheduled for this Saturday with a rally the following day at the Lincoln Memorial, where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his I Have a Dream speech. Globally, much of the LGBTQ community will question how to celebrate Pride Month amidst a global backlash against their human rights. In May, the U.K. Supreme Court handed down a decision that excluded transgender women from the legal definition of woman. In March, Hungary's government banned Pride altogether.
