Evidence presented at trial included Patterson's inconsistent statements about the source of the mushrooms and her actions following the incident, such as discarding a food dehydrator and discharging herself from hospital against medical advice. 

The verdict has brought relief to the Leongatha community, with many expressing that justice has been served. However, the families of the victims continue to feel the lasting effects of the tragedy. Patterson now faces a life sentence, and her pre-sentence hearings are scheduled to begin soon.

Erin Patterson argued with a nurse at the doors to Leangatha Hospital as Don and Gail Patterson and Heather and Ian Wilkinson fought for their lives. Patterson had been told her health may be in danger too if she'd eaten the same meal as her in-laws, but she still left, so Dr Chris Webster called Triple Zero. I had a brief chat to her about where the mushrooms were obtained and after that while I was attending the other patients, the nurse informed me that she had discharged herself against medical advice. Patterson gave him a short answer to his pressing question. Woolworths, single word, that's it. And in that moment, he knew she was a murderer. When she didn't respond in a way that instantly would have explained it as a tragic accident, yeah, that's it. From that moment in my mind, she was guilty. Patterson claimed to have gastro-symptoms from the lunch, but CCTV of the pit stop at a BP servo shows her enter and exit a bathroom in nine seconds. She told police she didn't own a food dehydrator, but in reality, she'd dumped it at a tip to cover her tracks while leaving the operating manual in her kitchen drawer. Dr Webster says he found Patterson's tears on TV unbelievable. I was laughing at the absurdity of how fake her emotion appeared. And when he gave evidence at her trial, she stared him down. Yesterday, a jury found her guilty of murdering her three in-laws and trying to murder Ian Wilkinson, the only guest to survive after eating the poisonous beef Wellington meal. I'm glad it's over and I think the jury did the right thing. The mother of two faces life in prison, and those in her community say they're relieved justice has been served. If she really loved those people, right from the get-go, she would have done everything in her power to be honest and upfront, you know, if it was a mistake. No doubt whatsoever, she's very guilty. Black tarps remain around Erin Patterson's Lee and Gather house, put up by her friends in anticipation of her returning when the trial was over. But now that she's been found guilty and is being held in a high-security prison in Melbourne, it's unlikely she'll ever return to the property she once called her dream home. Those who knew her victims say their families have been given a life sentence. It's not over for them. They'll never forget what happened. Ian's not got his wife and it's heartbreaking. The Currumburra church where Ian serves as pastor has posted a notice outside. They were very special people who loved God and loved to bless others. It's been a long journey and we continue to lovingly support Ian, Simon and all the Wilkinson and Patterson family members. While the small Gippsland town thrust into the global spotlight by the mammoth Patterson trial now has to get used to a new normal. I think the community has just released that sigh of relief and happy to move on with life now that that's done and dusted with. Patterson's pre-sentence hearings will begin next month.
