A 19-year-old man climbed a 20-metre-high crane at a construction site in Adelaide, South Australia, remaining on the structure for nearly ten hours. Emergency services, including firefighters, were deployed to coax him down, diverting resources from other incidents.

Authorities stated that the man's actions put himself and others at risk, and he is expected to be charged with trespass and obstructing a public place. In response, the State Government announced a review of safety protocols for crane sites in the city, which currently has 26 operational cranes.

Making his way across a slither of steel 20 metres above the ground. This teenager turns an Adelaide construction site into a dangerous stage. Going on the outside where he was holding on and not connected to anything, one slip and he would have fallen. The daredevil first spotted by Bikaila Muddy, who was in town with a friend. We were making some comments like, sure, that's Superman or something. Emergency services spent hours trying to coax the man down, even sending firefighters up. It's actually pretty incredible to watch that someone could do that without any safety fears or concerns of their own safety. Nearly ten hours later, the 19-year-old was finally on solid ground. To take that many people off the roads and for other things that were actual emergencies that they could have been delayed in from his action. It's not on, it shouldn't occur, and he's placed a lot of people at risk through that behaviour. With Adelaide leading the nation when it comes to crane activity and 26 operational in the city, the State Government says they're reviewing safety measures to ensure an incident like this doesn't happen again. No-one thinks it's a good idea to climb a 20-metre high crane and put themselves at risk. But you're not just putting yourself at risk, you're putting everyone else that has to dedicate countless hours to help that become a safer space. Police say the Hackenworths man is expected to be charged with trespass and obstructing a public place. It was scary to watch and imagine if he did fall and landed on somebody. Abbey Smith, 10 News.
