Despite starting from fifth, Norris's one-stop strategy paid off, while Piastri's attempt to overtake both Charles Leclerc and Norris on the tight Hungarian circuit fell short. Piastri's lead in the drivers' standings is now reduced to nine points, with ten races remaining in the season.

A fourth consecutive one-two for McLaren, but the Aussies' lead in the drivers' standings is now cut back to nine points. I pushed as hard as I could. You know, I think after I saw Lando going for a one, you know, I knew I was going to have to overtake on track, which is much easier said than done around here. And it's lights out, away we go. It was Ferrari's Charles Leclerc who started on pole, with Norris slipping back to fifth on lap one. But that meant the Englishman was handed the risky strategy of just one pit stop. It paid off for him, but punished Piastri, who was tasked with simply overtaking Leclerc. I don't know if trying to undercut Leclerc was the right call in the end, but, yeah, we can go through it after. In order to win, the Aussie had to try and overtake Norris on the tight Hungarian track without clipping him. And he gave it his all. He lunges, he locks up, he got close, but he was a long, long way back. I feel like that was going to be my best chance. You know, you never want to try and save it for the next lap and then it never comes. So I thought I would at least try and, yeah, not quite.
