Heavy lake-effect snow is ongoing in the south towns of Buffalo and the snow belt areas of Lake Ontario due to a classic westerly flow. Meteorologists note the potential for thunder and lightning within these snow bands, particularly from Erie to Dunkirk and Hamburg. 

Snowfall is expected to be most intense north of Syracuse, with accumulations reaching 24 to 28 inches. The snow bands are forecast to persist into the following morning before beginning to diminish by Friday night in Western New York.

We'll be going strong We'll be pumping 24 26 28 inches of snow out to the north of Syracuse and through here and notice by Friday night at least the New Western New York snow bands start to wind up a little bit
