Families are mourning loved ones, including both protesters and bystanders caught in the unrest.

The protests, driven by demands for better governance, police reforms, and an end to corruption, saw thousands take to the streets in several towns. Rights groups have accused some politicians and officials of hiring gangs to infiltrate the protests, leading to further violence and property damage. The government has condemned the violence and called for peace, while affected communities urge authorities to address their grievances.

They say he'd gone to work in a town on the outskirts of the Kenyan capital, Nairobi. Wangari Mwangi says her husband, Kevin Njao, was shot in the head as he tried to get back home. I've lost my best friend. I don't know life. I don't know life. Thousands of people protested in several towns across Kenya. They wanted to pay tribute to more than 60 young people who were killed during last year's anti-government protests. They're demanding good governance, police reforms, and an end to corruption. The interior ministry said what happened on Wednesday is unacceptable. We condemn the criminal anarchists who, in the name of peaceful demonstrations, unleashed a wave of violence, looting, sexual assault, and destruction upon our people. This is one of the most affected areas in the city centre. It's a busy business street, and every time there are protests, this is what happens. This is downtown Nairobi, and there are police here who are saying that they just want to keep the peace, but there's still a lot of anger. Now many of the shops were looted, and we have been speaking to business owners who say that they have had enough of the kills. Rights groups accuse certain politicians and government officials of hiring gangs to infiltrate peaceful protests. Many of the people who were brought in to violently attack the protesters were paid anything between $2 to $3. Many of the people who ferried them around on the motorbikes were given $20.
