Known for their disruptive tactics, the group has been involved in a range of activities, including throwing soup at van Gogh paintings and vandalizing government buildings, sparking widespread public criticism. Just Stop Oil claims that their goal has been met as the UK government has decided not to issue new licenses for coal, gas, and oil exploration.

Despite the UK government's assertion that their decision is not connected to the group’s protests, Just Stop Oil considers this a victory. The organization will now focus on less risky forms of action. They aim to advocate for a zero-carbon future, explore legal avenues to 'speak truth in court', and work towards securing the release of members currently incarcerated due to protest actions.



'Just Stop Oil' movement holds final protest

For the last three years, Just Stop Oil have established themselves as the UK's most disruptive environmental protest group. They have thrown soup at a van Gogh painting in the National Gallery. They've glued themselves to a Leonardo da Vinci. They've burst in on theatrical performances, musical concerts, and sporting events. They've vandalized government buildings. And they have blocked lots and lots of roads, often drawing huge criticism from those who allege that Just Stop Oil are out of touch with the ordinary working lives of many, many Britons. But this is the last demonstration. The group is, as they put it, hanging up the orange high-vis vests that have acted as their uniform. Why? Well, they say that they have got what they've asked for, that the government has basically made their demand policy. That demand is that the UK government stop issuing new licenses for coal exploration, gas exploration, and oil exploration. Now, the UK government says that while it is committed not to issue any new licenses, that's nothing to do with the protests of Just Stop Oil. But regardless, this is the last we are likely to see of Just Stop Oil's protests and its civil disobedience. For now, they say they're going to concentrate on pushing for a zero-carbon future, speaking truth in court, as they say, and working to release those of the protesters who've ended up in jail.
