Journalists and supporters gathered in Cape Town to march in solidarity with media workers in Gaza who have been killed during the ongoing conflict. Organizers stated that more than 200 journalists have died in over 22 months, with many claiming they were deliberately targeted by Israeli forces. 

Participants, including South African journalist Kevin Bloom, emphasized the importance of defending press freedom and called for international journalists to be allowed into Gaza. The demonstration included a moment of silence to honor those who have been 'silenced,' and organizers reiterated their demand for accountability and unrestricted media access in the region.

Organisers in Cape Town say they want to hold Israel accountable and defend press freedom. Well, for more on all of this, we have Femida Miller standing by for us there in Cape Town. I see you're walking with the protesters. What have they been telling you? Exactly that, Sarah, and they've gone around this main location in Cape Town, where a few thousand people have gathered to ultimately protest against this continuing genocide in Gaza. Cape Town has been a city in South Africa where many of these protests have taken place. Today, many marching in commemoration of the journalists who have been specifically targeted by Israel and killed. And I just want to move across this way to speak to one of the journalists here today, Kevin Bloom. I'm going to come to this side of you. Kevin, why is it important for you to be here today? We've seen 238 at least journalists deliberately targeted by Israel. Journalists bring the truth. No foreign journalists are allowed into the Gaza enclave. There is a genocide happening in real time. The Gazan journalists have been reporting their own genocide, and now they are getting slaughtered. There are almost no professional journalists left in the enclave. And that's al-Sharif, who was the best of them and the bravest of them, was a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, foresaw his own assassination. And as he foresaw it, he was killed last week. More journalists have been killed in this conflict than in any other conflict of the century. It's very important for journalists in South Africa, especially in South Africa, to stand in solidarity with the journalists of Gaza. Thanks very much. That's Kevin Bloom, a South African journalist. And that's one of the ways the crowd here is showing solidarity with journalists who are working in Gaza, in that they're keeping quiet because so many journalists have been silenced. And many here want the entry of international journalists to Gaza because of the restrictions that have been placed and the pressure that journalists in Gaza are facing. Of course.
