Israeli attacks hit Gaza overnight, killing a Red Crescent worker as starvation deaths are rising - many of the victims are children.

A staff member of the Palestine Red Crescent Society was killed and three others injured following an Israeli airstrike on the organization's headquarters in Khan Younes, southern Gaza. The attack caused a fire in the building and is part of a broader pattern of strikes on medical facilities across the Gaza Strip.

The incident occurred amid a deepening hunger crisis in Gaza, where aid deliveries remain critically low and starvation-related deaths are rising. Reports indicate that more than half of the 169 Palestinians who have died from starvation since the conflict began have perished in the past two weeks, including many children. Medical facilities and aid workers continue to face significant risks as violence persists throughout the region.

The hunger crisis is deepening across Gaza. The government media office says just 36 aid trucks entered the strip on Saturday. More than 600 need to enter Gaza each day to meet the basic minimum requirements. At least 169 Palestinians have starved to death since Israel's war began, including 93 children. And more than half of those deaths have occurred in just the past two weeks. Hani Makhmoud joins us now from Gaza City. And, Hani, as we heard and saw there, people really are having to resort to any means in order to get food at this point, aren't they? Good morning, Tom. That's absolutely the case on every single day. And believe it or not, people are trying to get creative in the alternatives that they find here or to search for in order to avoid being hungry and being starved to death. But we've passed the tipping point now. Starvation is everywhere. It's widespread. Cases in the hospitals are very, very high. So from barter into offering service for just bread or for anything else to survive, these are just little things in the face of the bigger problems that have spread everywhere across the Gaza Strip. It's more of a real struggle on a daily basis to survive these difficult conditions. And even people with money now, they have a serious problem going to the market and buying, because the majority of their cash is frozen inside bank accounts. So they are unable to get the basic necessities to their children. And that leads into their children are starved and end up being in the hospital. So multifaceted dire situations now that keep accumulating and leading into this massive scale of starvation mortality that we're seeing inside the hospital. We're really at 169 cases of malnutrition, severe malnutrition. And that includes all age groups from newborn babies into children, into elderly now, and those who are unable to be at these crossings, at the distribution points to pick up food parcels and other basic necessities. They are left to suffer in displacement sites, unable to get their hands on any of the basic necessities. Because as of now, people have turned their survival mode. Everything they're doing feeds into their survival. And safety just occupies just a minimal part of their life. And that's what we're seeing on a daily basis. People risk their lives to get their hands on food that is largely looted by armed militias and organized gang members supported by the Israeli military. Or they die because of the stampede, because of the chaos born out of desperation and the act of violence at these distribution centers. Hani, stay with us, because the Palestine Red Crescent says one of its staff members has been killed in an Israeli attack on its headquarters in southern Gaza. The airstrike on the building in Khan Younes started a fire on the first floor. Three other Red Crescent staff members were injured in the attack. And Hani, medics and aid workers are risking their lives as we've seen. They're also being attacked, aren't they? Well, the attack on the Red Crescent Society facility in Khan Younes was not the only one as of last night. Explosions could be heard across Gaza City. In fact, there was one massive explosion and all the reports that we received that was coming from central area. I'm talking about a very long distance from Gaza City into the central area. But we were able to hear these massive explosions resulting from the ongoing home demolition. The Israeli military plans these explosive devices in areas that are crowded and densely populated with many of the residential clusters that are flattened. But the Red Crescent Society is one of many of the medical facilities across the Gaza Strip that are repeatedly targeted and they're severely damaged. From the opening weeks of the war, this particular facility in Khan Younes looks like the particular reason for that is to push it out of service. It offers free medical services to Palestinians across the Strip. It works as a subordinate to Nasser Medical Complex that have been destroyed by the Israeli military. And when it was rehabbed, it's only operating a few of its vital facilities. And as of the attack last night, we are seeing more of the same. facilities. And as of the attack last night, we are seeing more of Israel's insistence on destroying health facilities across the Gaza Strip. One member of the health of the medical staff of the Red Crescent Society was killed. Others were critically injured. Here in the Sheikh Rodwan District, a drone strike targeted a group of people, leading to the death of three more people, including a fitness bodybuilder, celebrity here in Gaza City, a champion who was killed in the attack. That's Abdullah Alhor, well known among Palestinians, was killed in the attack, and close to seven with the critical injuries. All of this happened while fighter jets were still hovering. Drones, quadcopters, and ongoing explosions did not stop all night long. I recall probably waking three, four times at night at the sound of massive explosions coming from the eastern part of Gaza City. So another sleepless night, not for me, but for many Palestinians who are cornered here in this small area in the western part of Gaza City.
