The incident occurred in the same area where two Israeli soldiers were killed in a previous attack. In response to the gunfire, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered military action, citing violations of the ongoing ceasefire.

Hamas has denied any connection to the latest attack and announced it would not return any hostages, attributing its decision to what it described as Israeli violations of the ceasefire. The IDF also released drone footage alleging Hamas staged the discovery of hostage remains. Israeli strikes were reported in several areas of Gaza, but were described as less intense than previous operations.

Welcome to the I-24 News Desk. I'm Nicole Zedick. Thanks for joining us this evening. The Gaza ceasefire growing more fragile by the minute. Air operatives opened fire on IDF troops stationed near Rafah in southern Gaza, same area where two Israeli soldiers were killed in an attack just last week. Moments ago, Hamas denying it has any connection to the attack. In response, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the military to carry out forceful strikes in Gaza. This comes after the IDF released drone video of Hamas' latest psychological warfare, staging the discovery of hostage remains. In the video, you can see Hamas can be seen taking human remains, burying them, and calling it the Red Crossover. They then pretend to discover this deceased hostage. While the terror group had announced it would hand over the body, one of the remaining 13 deceased hostages this evening, Hamas now says it won't return any hostages due to, quote, Israel's violations of the ceasefire. But a lot of development is happening rapidly here. And to break it all down, we're joined by our I-24 News senior Middle East correspondent, Ariel Ossoran. Ariel, I want to begin with just the latest inside Gaza. Israel striking throughout the Gaza Strip in violation of these Hamas violations of the ceasefire. What is the latest as to what's happening inside Gaza at this moment? So, Prime Minister Netanyahu ordered intense airstrikes in response to these Hamas violations. We have seen Israeli strikes. I don't know if we can call them intense, or we can say that there have been more intense waves of strikes since the ceasefire began. We've seen strikes in southern Gaza and the Rafah area, as well as in numerous parts of Gaza City, even northward of there in the Gaza Strip, artillery fire in central Gaza's Deir el-Balakh, nothing that we haven't seen before, and not as intense as we saw following that recent incident that you mentioned of the two soldiers who were killed there. We saw dozens of Israeli strikes. That's not what we saw now. We're seeing Israel responding. These images, those are the images from the previous wave of strikes. There weren't too much footage coming out today indicating that it wasn't as intense. Israel needs to respond and even relate to the Americans that it is planning to respond. Hamas, they're saying that they had no connection to it. That's also what they said in response to the incident last week. Now, it's hard to take a terror organization on its word, not just following the past two years of experience, but that video that we showed earlier today of them blatantly lying. So how can you take them by their word? But if we were hypothetically to incline them by taking them on their word, then the possibilities, which are less likely, this would be perhaps one of the militias that oppose Hamas trying to create some sort of false flag attack on Israeli forces to entice them to further their response against Hamas. I don't see this as likely. Hamas is indeed trying to, on the one hand, drag its feet and prolong this first phase of the ceasefire. What does it gain from that? It gains further buying time in control, solidifying their control over the Gaza Strip and also making it more challenging for any other opposing body to assume control over the Gaza Strip, as planned in phase two of the deal. But ultimately, Hamas is the one responsible. We also saw before this war that whenever there were rockets launched at Israel, they were saying, no, it's not us. Hamas is the sovereign of their 47 percent that they control over the Gaza Strip. Ultimately, they need to be held responsible. We're even hearing the same thing from U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance. Whether it's Hamas or anyone else, Israel has the right to respond.
