Hurricane Humberto has strengthened over the Atlantic Ocean as another weather system develops nearby. CBS News meteorologist Jessica Burch has more.

Hurricane Humberto has strengthened to a category one hurricane in the Atlantic and is expected to intensify further as it moves over warmer waters. Meteorologists report that Humberto is not expected to interact with a nearby developing system, currently known as Invest 94L, which is also being monitored for possible intensification and movement northward.

While Humberto is forecast to remain out in the Atlantic, it may cause rough surf along the East Coast. Invest 94L, which could be named Imelda if it develops further, may bring stormy weather to parts of Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas in the coming days. The National Hurricane Center continues to monitor both systems closely.

Hurricane Humberto strengthens in the Atlantic

All eyes on the Atlantic today with Hurricane Umberto out there. Look at that. Another tropical development in the mix. Meteorologist Jessica Burke. Burke is tracking the tropics. Tropics Birch. Oh my gosh, it's been active. You know it's crazy. I almost worked for the National Hurricane Center to down in Miami. Here's what's happening for us as we head outside today and tomorrow. Stormy weather across the South right now. It has nothing to do with the two storms that are right around the corner. We're keeping a close eye on two tracked storms right now. One officially that hurricane status category one right now, which is, by the way, that spaghetti model that you see a little bit closer to me right now. That's going to stay out in the Atlantic. It's the other one right now that hasn't even been named yet that we're going to be keeping a very close eye on, because that track is expected to move its way North, but we don't know the intensity yet, and that's the big concern right now. The National Hurricane Center. Of course, our friends over there keeping a very close eye on it. It's called an investor right now. 94 L and we're monitoring it closely as we head into this weekend and early next week because that's when it's expected to move its way North. Let's start off with Hurricane Humberto. Currently to category one status very close to the other system too. Within the evening hours tonight, early morning hours tomorrow, it's expected to go from a cat. Wanted cat for that is called a rapid intensification. Currently at 90 miles per hour, it's going to gain a lot of strength as it moves into some warmer sea surface temperatures and at the same time it's staying away from the other system, which potentially will be named in Milda by the way, as that system continues to move North. But those two aren't expected to move into each other by any means. That would be called the Fujiwara effect, and that's not what's happening right now. Those two systems are staying far enough away to where they're not impacting each other, but one is growing in size. Right now staying out in the Atlantic, potentially impacting some rough surf as we head into next week just along that East Coast, but this invest is going to bring stormy weather as we head into next week pushing into Florida, Georgia and up into the Carolinas.
