Hundreds of protesters gathered in downtown Denver, marching from the state Capitol to Union Station as part of a nationwide movement opposing President Donald Trump and his administration. The demonstration, organized by Colorado 50 51, was peaceful and aimed at expressing opposition to Trump, ICE, and perceived oligarchic influences.

A separate, smaller protest focused specifically on recent ICE arrests of over 200 immigrants in the Denver Metro area. Some participants voiced concerns about the revocation of asylum and the treatment of naturalized citizens and green card holders. During the evening, a small group blocked traffic, leading to one arrest by Denver police for alleged traffic-related offenses. ICE was contacted for comment but had not responded at the time of reporting.

A tale of two protests in downtown Denver today, hundreds marching through the streets near the Capitol as part of a nationwide movement against President Donald Trump and his administration. Now, the other is a targeted demonstration about recent ice arrests throughout the Denver Metro. Thank you so much for joining us for Denver seven News at 10. I'm Jacqueline Allen. While those messages may have overlapped, their methods varied. Denver sevens Colette Bordelon was at the Capitol and explains the differences tonight. Colette, let's start with that first protest rage against the regime where a huge crowd marched from here at the state Capitol to Union Station. These pictures show just how large the group was during the day. People I spoke with say it was very peaceful and organized. The group that was behind it, Colorado 50 51 says it was intended to be a demonstration against Trump, ice and oligarchs. I spoke with two women who showed up this afternoon expecting to join another protest that was specifically directed at ice and the more than 200 immigrants arrested over nine days in july throughout the Denver Metro. They came to live the american dream. They were granted asylum and suddenly the government decided to take that asylum away and make them illegal. They did nothing illegal and what's happening to them is amounting to kidnapping in any other country. We would call this kidnapping. And and you're a naturalized citizen. You told me you were from England. Why are you out here today? Well, I'm a naturalized citizen. I'm very conscious of the fact that I'm white, I don't have any tattoos, I probably won't get picked up anytime. But there are many other naturalized citizens or green card holders in this country who don't have that security. And I think that is just inhumane and it is wrong. So I spoke with those two women right at 5 30. At that time, there was only a small group of people who had gathered out here expecting that evening protest to happen. Right after I spoke with those women, a small group began blocking off Lincoln and those women actually left saying that's not the message they came out here for. Here's video showing one of the times the group blocked off Lincoln. A motorcycle drove through them first and then a car drove through them. Then Denver police pushed the protesters onto the sidewalk. After they left, we saw one fight break out from across the street and we were also here as a person was arrested. We've heard from protesters. That person was just trying to head home when this happened. Denver police tell us they were arrested on suspicion of impeding traffic, reckless endangerment and attempted criminal mischief. I reached out to ice today with a central concern from those protesters. They say those arrests are considered a war on community in their minds. So far, I haven't heard back from ice, but I'll keep trying. We're in Denver club portal on Denver seven. All right. Thank you, Colette.
