Road construction on Nevada State Drive near Nevada State University in Henderson has been ongoing for over six months, with residents noting repeated work on roads and sidewalks. The project, which began in June 2024, aims to add four lanes, bike lanes, raised medians, and new traffic signals between Compassion Drive and Conestoga.

The city of Henderson attributed the delays to utility challenges, but reports that these issues have now been resolved. A new sewer line and traffic signals have been installed, with the final paving scheduled for mid-August. The city anticipates completing the project in time for the start of the university's fall semester.

That's what brings me down here to Henderson near Nevada State University. Viewer Ben emailed me, Hi Guy, just a heads up that the construction around the wagon wheel exit off the 95 and around the roads in the area is a complete mess. Way over schedule. The roads and sidewalks have been done and redone like three or four times in this project that has dragged on for over six months now. And as you can see, construction crews are definitely still out here. There's a lot of traffic cones, unpaved roads and construction equipment everywhere around these neighborhoods. So I wanted to see what's going on with this project and what's taking so long. I reached out to the city of Henderson to get some answers. In an email, a spokesperson told me that this project started in June 2024 to make improvements to Nevada State Drive between Compassion Drive and Conestoga. That includes adding four additional lanes, bike lanes, raised medians and new traffic signals. Signs all over the worksite show that this project was originally set to wrap up this spring. But as evidenced by all the work that's still going on here, that clearly didn't happen. According to the city of Henderson, that's because it was delayed several months due to what they call utility challenges. They tell me that's all taken care of now, though. A new sewer line has been installed, as well as new traffic signals that are just waiting power from NV Energy at this point. Final paving is planned for mid-August and Henderson is shooting for a completion date that lines up with the start of the fall semester at Nevada State, which is August 25th.
