Barbara Clark, who lost her sister and a friend in the incident, shared her story as part of the World Day of Remembrance for road traffic victims, which commemorates those lost and supports survivors.

Recent statistics show that 1,350 people have died on Australian roads in the past year, a 6.8 percent increase from the previous year. Authorities and advocates are urging the public to exercise greater caution, particularly as the holiday season approaches, noting that most road deaths result from illegal driving behaviors such as speeding and driving under the influence.

Thousands of lives are lost every year but it's the ones left behind still dealing with the trauma. Barbara Clark lost her sister Carol Chambers after a drunk driver flipped a stolen car ploughing head-on to the car she was in. He killed my sister and her friend in the back passenger seat behind her and seriously injured her partner as well. Today marks the World Day of Remembrance for road traffic victims. Barbara just one of many feeling their loss. Today is an important day because you mix and meet with other people who have also gone through the same trauma. I think that's a real tragedy with the loss is that we simply don't really know what we've lost because you know the potential that person has never realised at any age. 360 clocks lined the stage each frozen at the moment a life was taken changing the lives of their family forever. Across Australia in the past 12 months to September 1,350 people have been killed on the roads. That's 6.8 percent higher than the same time last year. Generally the loss of life on our roads is a direct result of someone breaking a law. It's driving at speed under the influence of alcohol other drugs. And since records began 50 million people have been killed on the road globally making it the leading cause of death for children and young people. Today is a reminder for all Australians to take extra care on the roads especially as the holiday season approaches. We've seen over the last 24 48 hours lives lost that didn't need to be lost. Families that are buying coffins instead of Christmas presents.
