Professor Nina Kirchner emphasized that the slight recovery seen this year, attributed to heavy snowfall, should not be mistaken as a resolution to the issue. Kirchner warned that this temporary reprieve may create a misleading sense of security, but the long-term trend indicates ongoing glacial shrinkage in Sweden. Supporting this concern, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) cautions that by 2100, if current trends persist, four out of five Swedish glaciers could shrink considerably or vanish entirely.

And the whole ecology in the mountains and the Alps is dependent on this water that comes and goes. This year, heavy snowfall has helped the glaciers recover slightly, but professor Nina Kirchner said this has just created a false sense of security. The most important thing is to take this snowy winter not as a sign that there is no danger. I know that in the long run it will not matter and in the long run the glaciers will shrink in Sweden. The IPCC has warned that if we continue as we are, four out of five glaciers in Sweden will have shrunk significantly or completely melted by the year 2100.
