The crisis has been exacerbated by prolonged conflict, aid restrictions, and a previous blockade of supplies.

While the United Nations has not officially declared a famine in Gaza due to insufficient data, local health authorities state that starvation deaths have increased sharply in recent weeks. Israeli officials deny widespread starvation, attributing hunger to alleged aid mismanagement by Hamas and UN agencies, though these claims are not substantiated by evidence.

NGOs such as Doctors Without Borders and the World Food Programme report that 25% of children under five in Gaza face acute malnutrition, with one in three people going for days without food. Scarce items available like a kilo of flour now cost a staggering $100. What we are seeing unfold right now is the systematic destruction or the systematic blockade of every single thing that a human being needs to survive. We've submitted multiple requests to the Israeli authorities to bring those food parcels into Gaza and they have been denied with a four-word answer saying food is not the priority. Experts warn that Gaza has descended into the worst-case scenario, a full-blown famine. According to a classification system on food security known as the IPC, a famine is declared when 20% of households in a region face severe food shortages, 30% of children suffer from acute malnutrition and two in 10,000 adults die daily directly due to hunger or malnutrition. The UN has not yet officially declared famine in Gaza due to a lack of supporting data. Israeli officials have denied the existence of mass starvation, stating without evidence that Hamas has stolen or hoarded aid and blaming hunger on UN distribution failures.

An independent watchdog agency responsible for enforcing a law against partisan political activity by federal employees has opened an investigation into Jack Smith, the special counsel who brought two criminal cases against Donald Trump before his election to the White House last year.
