Tropical Storm Gabrielle is expected to become a hurricane Sunday while continuing to move to the northwest. The storm will then turn to the north and eventually head to the northeast, moving east of Bermuda.

Tropical Storm Gabrielle is currently moving northwest with winds of 50 miles per hour, positioned to the north and east of the Leeward Islands. According to the National Hurricane Center, Gabrielle is becoming more organized and is expected to strengthen into a hurricane as it approaches the area east of Bermuda.

Forecasts indicate Gabrielle will reach category one hurricane status with winds of 90 miles per hour as it passes east of Bermuda. The system is expected to strengthen further before turning away from Bermuda. The hurricane season continues through the end of November.

Let's begin with Gabrielle. According to the National Hurricane Center, 50 mile per hour winds moving northwest at 13 miles per hour. It's well to the north and east of the Leeward Islands here, and you'll notice that with that convection kind of wrapping all the way around the center, it is looking better organized on this Saturday morning and is expected to become a hurricane by tomorrow night into Monday morning. Here is the forecast cone. Remember, this is the forecast for the center of Gabrielle, moving just to the Easter Bermuda Sunday night into Monday morning with 90 mile per hour winds. That's indeed a category one hurricane strengthening a bit more on Tuesday, but by that time turning away from Bermuda. But remember, we've got a ways to go. Hurricane season goes all the way through the end of November.
