In a solemn display of solidarity, participants lay on the ground as names of the victims were read aloud. This marked the first occasion where journalists from multiple French media outlets united to condemn the violence they described as unprecedented carnage.

Protesters donned vests and protective gear to symbolize the danger faced by their counterparts in Gaza, who wear press insignias yet remain at risk. There are increasing concerns about a media blackout in Gaza imposed by the Israeli military, which began a campaign of bombardment that reportedly killed nearly 200 journalists in the region. 

Calls to end the conflict in Gaza are growing, and some see an opportunity for change. President Emmanuel Macron indicated that France might recognize Palestine as a state, possibly reflecting a wider international desire for peace. The protest aimed to spotlight the need for protection of journalists, allowing them to report without fear and ensuring that the world hears the stories emerging from Gaza.



French journalists denounce killing of colleagues in Gaza

They are reading the list of the journalists who have been killed in Gaza. As the names of the victims were mentioned one by one, journalists lay on the ground to express their solidarity. This is the first time that French journalists from several media outlets gathered to denounce what they described as an unprecedented carnage. I hope the sooner the better, journalists from Europe and also from all over the world can go inside Gaza and also tell what's happening. They came to the protest wearing vests, protective gear, to convey that despite the fact that journalists in Gaza had always the word press emblazoned in their vests, they were targeted. We see from France, we see them being killed every day and this is unprecedented in the story of journalism, in the modern history of journalism. So it's not possible to stay silent when we see our colleagues being massacred every day. Since it started its relentless bombardment, Israel continues to impose a media blackout in Gaza, endangering the lives of Palestinian journalists reporting from the Strip. And we are proud that we are now giving the photo and the video and the sound of the people that are killed in Gaza, not because we are like to be killed as a Palestinian, no, because we are defending the humanity in all the world. There's a growing call for an immediate end to the war in Gaza. President Emmanuel Macron has said France could recognise Palestine as a state in the coming months. Can they see this could be an indication more countries want peace to prevail in Gaza? For many months, journalists in Gaza felt they were alone and abandoned. This protest is an attempt to tell the world that the journalists in Gaza must be given the protection and respect they deserve to continue the work without fear of being targeted.
