The band expressed disappointment over the cancellation and offered to continue the celebration at local bars with $5,000 tabs. Event organisers and Federation Square management stated that fencing and security were adequate, and a review of the incident is underway. No injuries were reported.

It's $5,000 worth of free piss. Access to Federation Square was closed off when it reached its capacity of 10,000 before Amel and the Sniffers started their set. Organisers say those who forced their way in risked creating a crowd crush. I'm really relieved we're here today talking about the cancellation of a concert and not about people being hurt. I think there was some risk to public safety so we're definitely reviewing how that went. Those who run Federation Square say they had the right type of fencing and the dozens of security guards on duty were enough for the crowd of 10,000. They planned to hold more free concerts and would welcome Amel and the Sniffers back. It's about some people in that crowd having a sense of entitlement that because it's free that they should be able to be in even though it's shut. Rory Campbell, 10 News.
