It's the travel disruption that no one wanted in the middle of the school holidays. With only one in two trains now scheduled to go ahead at the end of the week, the odds for passengers aren't great. The SNCF rail company said they would warn them ahead of time though, sending out emails on Wednesday. This woman wasn't meant to travel home until Friday, but was forced to cut short her visit to family. I immediately tried to find another train, but of course everyone who got the email was doing the same thing, so it was difficult to find anything available. In the end I found one this afternoon, so I packed my bags in a hurry. One million people are expected to travel by rail this weekend. The SNCF is primarily maintaining trains heading to and from the Alps over other destinations. They say it makes the most sense, business-wise. 10% of French people go skiing, but they make up 20% of our customers, so we weren't necessarily trying to prioritise the Alps trips. We were prioritising the busiest trains. It means that most of these skiers in Maribel can enjoy a few more days on the slopes without worrying how they'll get home. I got lucky, I got a message saying my train was maintained, which is a relief. Passengers who weren't so lucky can exchange their ticket for free, or get a full refund. All affected passengers have also been offered a 50% discount on their next journey, as long as they book it over the next month.
