The fire arrived very rapidly. We just had time to get the car out, and within an hour the house, everything had burned. The fire broke out Tuesday afternoon. As of Thursday morning, more than 11,000 hectares had gone up in smoke. The A9 highway linking France and Spain turned to a parking lot as authorities shut down the key artery. President Emmanuel Macron took to social media to offer his support to firefighters and local officials as he urged residents to use the utmost caution. The regional weather forecast is not likely to help firefighters. Authorities say bringing the blaze under control will likely take several days.
