During a lengthy public comment session, residents voiced concerns about the decision. City officials stated that no employees are expected to lose their jobs, though some positions will be affected and reassigned. Following the suspension, the council also voted to create a small business development program. Additionally, the council is moving forward with the selection process for a new police chief, addressing concerns about transparency in the process.

The Trump administration threatened to strip the city of 40 million in annual funding and more than 270 million in federal grants if it didn't get rid of its DEI policies. More than 70 residents expressed their concerns during a nearly five-hour public comment portion at yesterday's council meeting. While Mayor Maddie Parker was one of the seven council members voting to maintain federal funding, she claims she and her other council members had no choice. We represent over 1 million people. We're one of the fastest growing cities in the nation and to be on track, to be where we need to be, to be a safe city, a city that's well run, prepared for growth, this vote is imperative. The city's DEI offices employs 16 people. It gets about 3 million dollars in local money each year. City Manager Jay Chapa previously said he does not anticipate any city employees losing their jobs but because of the DEI cuts, fine people's positions will be affected. The city says it will find new work for them. After that vote and in response to the suspension, the council made another decision. The Fort Worth City Council is moving forward with the process to select a new police chief despite at least one member's concerns about transparency. City leaders addressed the matter in a public work session yesterday. The focus is former Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia's application which was submitted after the June 4th deadline. City Manager Jay Chapa says this is not unusual for executive searches. He also said that deadline was flexible. There was not a hard deadline. There was no special treatment. There was nothing like that in mind. People have called and said they don't feel like this process was transparent because one applicant filed or applied after, you know, a deadline or no deadline. So I'm just in the future because we have already, we are already here, uh, that we should set hard deadline. The two other finalists for the position were Interim Chief Robert Aldridge and former Dallas Deputy Police Chief Vernon Hale. Candidates will have a meet and greet next week.
