A retired police officer working as a Miami Heat security guard is accused of perpetrating one of the biggest sports memorabilia heists in history. Cristian Benavides reports.

A retired Miami police officer, Marcos Thomas Perez, has been accused of stealing approximately 400 pieces of rare Miami Heat memorabilia while working for NBA security. The items, which included full sets of jerseys, shorts, and warm-ups from notable players such as LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, and Shaquille O'Neal, were allegedly sold below market value, with some later resold at auction for significantly higher prices.

Investigators say Perez had exclusive access to the storage area for the memorabilia and sold some items under his own name. The Miami Police Chief condemned the alleged betrayal of public trust. The Miami Heat are expected to attempt to recover the stolen memorabilia, which may require buyers to return items they purchased in good faith.
