But the focus of the competition was on more important matters, raising awareness of cervical cancer. It's the fourth most common cancer among women, with Africa accounting for nearly a quarter of global deaths. Cancer is very like a big disease, so every child should get their vaccine so that they can be protected. So all of us came here to learn about it and also test it, so it improves our intelligence. The tournament was part of the Goal Getters campaign. It's a joint initiative launched last year by the Confederation of African Football, UEFA and the Vaccine Alliance Gavi, using football to increase the uptake of the HPV vaccine, which can prevent up to 90% of cervical cancer cases. Some parents keep their children away from school on the day we visit, because they think the injections are a secret family planning method that will prevent their children from having babies. There are many misconceptions, which is why health education is a major part of the campaign and it's slowly helping to improve the situation. HPV or human papillomavirus is sexually transmitted and the primary cause of cervical cancer.
