A group of thieves broke into the Fendi store on Elizabeth Street in Sydney's CBD by ramming a stolen Lexus through the front glass. The offenders took multiple designer handbags, making several trips in and out of the store before fleeing in two other stolen vehicles, a white BMW and a grey Audi S3. 

Police have recovered the Lexus for forensic testing and are working to determine the total value of the stolen goods, with some Fendi bags valued at over $9,000 each. Authorities warn the public to be cautious of discounted designer goods online, as the stolen items may be resold. This incident is the first such ram raid in Sydney's CBD in about a year.

Long before doors opened at Fendi, a shopping spree that damaged more than just wallets. I still can't believe that. That's crazy. How is this happening in our Sydney? The thieves arrived in Alexis at around a quarter to four this morning. Swerving onto the pavement along Elizabeth Street and through the front glass, the trio then held themselves to as many designer handbags as they could swipe. They make probably two or three trips in and out of the store. But this was no impulse buy. The Lexus was reported stolen from Waterloo on Monday night. Ditching it at the scene, the thieves and their haul fled with getaway drivers in two other cars. The white BMW and a grey Audi S3, yet to be recovered, both taken in a break and enter at Kingsford last night as the residents slept. The robbers were wearing gloves and face coverings, but police have taken the Lexus for forensic testing, searching for any trace they've left behind. Police are still trying to work out just how much was stolen, but with some Fendi bags fetching more than $9,000, clearly it was an exercise that these thieves thought was worth the risk. It's insane and we really need to crack down on this stuff and stop it. It's ridiculous. No care whatsoever. No fear. During a spate of ram raids, a Melbourne Fendi store was targeted in April. But police say this morning's robbers are the first brazen enough to hit Sydney's CBD in around a year. Thankfully these types of crimes don't occur very often and very rarely here in the city. Detectives expect the stolen goods to be offloaded at a discounted cost, so a warning for online bargain hunters. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Hannah Taylor, 10 News.
