Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) have implemented weapon detectors at all high school football playoff games as part of their efforts to enhance security. The detectors, made by Open Gate, allow attendees to walk through with their bags and are designed to screen for firearms and explosives. 

Parents expressed support for the new measures, hoping they will deter violence and provide peace of mind during events. Other school districts in the region, including Prince George's County and Spotsylvania County, have also adopted similar security precautions at their athletic events.

Nana Hey, Jim and Marina, so kickoff is at 7 o'clock But before you can even enter the stadium here at South County You must go through one of these and it's not just here It's at all high schools in Fairfax County that have a playoff game Now people will go through a detector created by the company open gate According to the company that makes them all you have to do is walk through without removing your bag the machine screens for firearms and even IEDs Fairfax County Public School says this is a part of their ongoing efforts to enhance security at FCPS and their hope is that these new measures will enhance safety for everyone who attends our games parents We spoke with today say they're on board I'm hoping that it'll deter potential violence and it's just gonna make everything safer and the kids can have fun and the parents can kind of Mentally, you know not stress out as much that about their kids safety If nothing else is deterred things that happen because it's not just you know, major weapons It could be small things. It could be fights like knowing that there's extra precaution Now FCPS isn't the only district taking precautions a number of schools in our region have similar measures in place over in Prince George's County Officials are using metal detecting wands and in September Spotsylvania County school leaders added a similar weapons detector system at all of their home games again You can expect to see these detectors at all playoff games Tonight's game starts again at 7 p.m. Against Falls Church
