At least 30 people have been injured in a ski lift accident at the Spanish resort of Astún,  around the Pyrenees mountain range, emergency services in Spain said on Saturday.

At least 30 individuals sustained injuries when a chairlift collapsed at the Astún Ski Resort, located in Huesca, Spain. The incident, reported by emergency services, occurred due to a malfunction in a piece that ensures the chairlift's return, causing part of the structure to fall. Local officials disclosed that four rescue helicopters and ten ambulances were dispatched to the site for immediate aid.

Witnesses reported that a cable seemed to have dislodged, causing the chairlift to fall, resulting in chaotic movements of the chairs. Among the injured, approximately nine people are in serious condition. The most critically injured, a woman, was airlifted by helicopter to a hospital in Zaragoza, the capital of the region, for further medical treatment.

In response to the accident, authorities have completely evacuated and closed the Astún Ski Resort. Investigations are likely underway to understand the cause of the chairlift collapse and to ensure the safety of similar facilities in the area.
