Mars, Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, and Saturn can be seen without optical aids, while Uranus and Neptune will require binoculars or a telescope. The best views are expected for those with a clear sightline to the western horizon, provided weather conditions are favorable.

What people will notice is that all the planets will be lined up almost like pearls on a string across the sky. A rare seven-planet alignment, eight if you count Earth, peaks just after sunset Friday night. Now in terms of alignment, they're all going to appear to be in a line because that's the line called the ecliptic that the planets, the sun, the moon, all follow because our solar system orbits the sun of the same plane and we see that plane as a line throughout the sky. Mars, Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, and Saturn are potentially visible to the naked eye, but you'll need binoculars or a telescope to see Uranus and Neptune. Those with a clear look toward the western horizon will have the best chance for a good view, pending clear weather, of course.
