Winter rains in Gaza City have caused severe flooding in the tents housing hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians. Many families have lost basic necessities such as mattresses, food, and clothing to the water, and the flimsy tents offer little protection from the cold.

Residents are calling for new shelters as the first rain of the season has already left many without dry places to sleep or store their belongings. The harsh weather has added to the suffering of those displaced, with no immediate solutions in sight.

Winter has arrived in Gaza City and this is what life looks like here in Gaza City after just a few hours of raining. Tents have been flooded due to the heavy rain and winter added an extra element of suffering to the hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians. We can clearly see here children are trying to sweep the water out from their flooded tent. There is like a closed lock inside this tent which is very flimsy and is no longer offering any sort of protection to these families with blankets, mattresses. People can't live here anymore. All the tents have been flooded. People's mattresses, their food, their water, their clothes, everything has been soaked. We are calling for help for new tents that can at least protect people from the winter cold. This winter rain is a blessing from God but there are families who no longer wish for it to fall, fearing for the lives of their children and their own survival. We've reached this point. In this area we've been draining the water for about three hours trying to push it out of the school. Around 20 people have been working together just to get the water out. It was just the first rain of the season, half an hour of rain, and we were flooded. In the first 30 minutes everything was underwater. We no longer have a normal life as you can see. I'm lifting the mattresses so the children don't get soaked but the little ones were already drenched here. We don't even have proper tents. For hundreds of thousands of displaced families the winter is not just rain, it's an added layer of suffering.
