We're going to close it, and we're going to make it unbelievable. The plans President Trump described Monday seemed to go beyond simple renovations and more like a full overhaul of one of Washington's most iconic buildings. I'm not ripping it out. I'll be using the steel. So we're using destruction. Sources familiar with the plan quickly clarified that Trump does not intend to tear down the 55-year-old Kennedy Center, telling CBS News that the basic layout of the building will remain and that Trump has not asked for estimates to gut D.C.'s premier performing arts venue. It's in tremendous disrepair. Presidents don't normally get involved with cracks in concrete and acoustics, but this developer-in-chief does. We're bringing back the Capitol. We're bringing back our country. Just three weeks into his second term, Trump pushed out all of the Democrats on the Kennedy Center board and replaced them with loyalists who elected him chairman. And in December, they added Trump to the center's name, though that's not official without congressional approval. And I was surprised by it. I was honored by it. My big worry is they're just going to tear the place down like they did the East Wing, rebuild it as a monument to Donald Trump, and forget about that this is a living monument to JFK.
