Brisbane Airport's domestic terminal was evacuated after an unspecified number of passengers were not properly screened due to a fault with a metal detector. The incident led to passengers being required to exit the terminal and re-queue for security checks, resulting in lengthy lines both inside and outside the terminal.

More than a dozen flights were delayed and some were cancelled, affecting routes to major cities across Australia. While flight schedules began returning to normal, ongoing disruptions were expected as airlines worked to reposition aircraft and accommodate affected passengers. Brisbane Airport has apologised for the inconvenience and advised travellers to check for updates before flying.

Urs it is. An unknown number of passengers weren't properly screened. Now this all happened late this afternoon, around five o'clock, that's when the entire domestic terminal was evacuated. Passengers who'd already gone through security, well they were told to turn around, go back outside and queue up again. That of course caused huge lines inside the terminal and outside Brisbane's domestic terminal. Security there right now is inside the large marquees on the footpath while the main security points are renovated. It's understood this is all because of a fault with one metal detector. Now more than a dozen flights were delayed, others have been cancelled. You've got Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Perth, Rockhampton, Cairns. Flights from all of those airports and others around the country are all impacted tonight. It's pandemonium, like there's hundreds of people who are waiting, probably two to three hour wait. Obviously it's just wait, hope and maybe get there in time. It's very crowded but now it's getting more empty with the more flights going. Everyone seems pretty relaxed about it to be honest, which is really nice. It's not an inconvenience yet because we're still pre-boarding time but we'll see how that goes as the night goes on. So not as relaxed, no snack and no wine. Now as Brisbane Airport it has apologised for the inconvenience that this has caused and as for those delays and cancellations, well flight schedules are starting to return to normal tonight but there will likely be rolling effects tomorrow. That's across all airlines as they work to get their planes back where they're needed and on time. Of course getting their passengers back where they need to be as well. The advice if you are planning to fly tomorrow is to check your airport's website for any delays.
