Authorities are still sorting out the precise number and details of victims, and investigators said they still had no known motive for the gun violence. Children's Mercy Kansas City Medical Center treated a dozen people from the incident, 11 of them children 6 to 15 years of age. A hospital spokesperson said nine of the 12 patients were gunshot victims. Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said Tuesday evening at least three people were detained and under investigation. I'm angry at what happened today. The people who came to this celebration should expect a safe environment. We had over 800 law enforcement officers, Kansas City and other agencies, at the location to keep everyone safe. Because of bad actors, which were very few, this tragedy occurred even in the presence of uniformed law enforcement officers, who again ran towards them and took them into custody. Chiefs players responded on social media with quarterback Patrick Mahomes saying he was praying for Kansas City. The celebration featured Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce on stage with other teammates, but Kelce's pop superstar girlfriend Taylor Swift was back on tour in Australia. A statement from the NFL said, we are deeply saddened by the senseless shooting that occurred in Kansas City today following the Chiefs celebration. Our thoughts are with the victims and everyone affected.
