This change is due to a pending CDC panel meeting required to re-approve vaccine distribution, which has not yet occurred for the current season. 

The delay has created uncertainty, as some states do not permit pharmacists to administer vaccines without CDC approval. While federal officials have expressed differing views on the necessity and safety of the vaccine, most medical experts maintain that it is both safe and effective. Vaccine manufacturers report ongoing shipments, but access remains limited until regulatory approval is granted.

All the uncertainty happening inside the CDC. Retailer CVS says it's now restricting its COVID vaccine rollout in 16 states. Scripps News national correspondent Alex Miller is live in New York City with some more details on who exactly is being restricted from getting these vaccines. Alex? Well Steph, it used to be that if you were six months or older you were eligible to get the coronavirus vaccine. That is not the case, at least not for now. You must be 65 years or older or have a serious health condition and that is because of the CDC. There's a meeting that happens to essentially re-approve the distribution of these vaccines. That has not happened yet this year ahead of the anticipated COVID season this winter. Now the CDC needs to have this meeting which it's expected to do in the next couple of months and until that happens some states do not allow pharmacists to administer vaccines without this CDC panel's approval. So everyone is kind of in limbo if your state is one of those states. We've been hearing conflicting things from federal officials especially since Health and Human Services Secretary RFK Jr. stepped into office. A lot of the officials who have been hired under him believe that this is not a necessary vaccine. They say that most people have built up an immunity. They question the safety and efficacy of it as well. Though most medical experts say not only is this vaccine safe but it is also a very effective vaccine. But a Kennedy of course continues to downplay the need for vaccines and let's look at which states are the ones that are seeing this issue. 16 states, red, blue, purple. You got Florida, Georgia, North Carolina all the way up to Pennsylvania and New York where I am right now. I tried to get online earlier today and get on CVS's website to try to make an appointment. They ask you two questions. If you've had COVID in the last two months which I have not and if you have any underlying health conditions and this is what I got when I said that I had an underlying health condition to see if anything would move the ball a little bit. They say vaccines are unavailable. This is what it said when I said I didn't have any underlying health conditions. So whether or not you have a health issue even though you're supposed to be able to get access to this vaccine it doesn't appear that this is the case. CVS says that this decision is based on the current regulatory environment but Moderna says they're getting vaccines out the door that shipments should be available in the coming days. Pfizer the other maker staff says that they have no comment on this issue. Certainly something that I'm sure parents and families across the country going to be looking out for.
