There is now a 9 p.m. curfew for unaccompanied minors in parts of Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine and Central Business District neighborhoods, following the passage of two ordinances by city council.

Cincinnati city council has unanimously approved a new curfew targeting unaccompanied minors, setting a 9 p.m. curfew for the central business district and Over-the-Rhine, and an 11 p.m. curfew for the rest of the city. The policy is intended to improve youth safety and reduce the risk of minors being involved in or victims of crime. 

Under the new rules, police will first attempt to contact parents if a minor is found breaking curfew; if unsuccessful, the minor will be taken to local nonprofits until parents arrive. While the ordinance passed unanimously, some council members raised concerns about its impact on youth attending downtown events. The curfew is effective immediately, but officials expect a full rollout to take about a week.

In response to concerns over teen violence, we want to make sure young people are being safe. There's a new curfew for unaccompanied kids in Cincinnati. It's a big change approved by the city council and 11 p.m. Citywide curfew for anyone under 18 and a 9 p.m. curfew within parts of OTR and downtown really about kids safety, both helping prevent them from being part of any type of disorder, but also preventing them from being victims of crime themselves. If your child breaks curfew first, police will try to contact you to pick them up. If that doesn't work, officers will take them to local nonprofits until parents arrive. We're just that space and that place that CPD has an opportunity and option to bring kids to. That includes seven Hills neighborhood house executive director, Alexis kids. Zephyr says they plan to be open until two or 3 a.m. Another nonprofit will be open until curfew ends in the morning, but we will have food for them. Sometimes I'm going to drink from if they're hungry or thirsty and definitely having individuals to talk to them. Despite council unanimously passing each ordinance, councilman Evan Nolan worried about the 9 p.m. Start time downtown. We have teams who may come down and watch a Reds game when the Reds game lets out, they may want to take a walk through smell park or hang out in smell park and, and, and watch the fireworks. And with this curfew in place, they wouldn't necessarily be allowed to do that. Nolan says responsibility also falls on parents to know where their kids are and what they're doing. We can't expect police to parent all of the teams in this city. Despite the curfew going into effect immediately council members, I spoke to say it'll likely take about a week to roll things out in full in Cincinnati, Alex and all WCPO nine news.
