Because we want to make it crystal clear, that if you can work from home, you should have that right. Consultation on what the legislation looks like is bound to be bumpy. We're more than likely, if not certainly, going to see talk of a constitutional challenge on the validity of any state-based legislation on this topic. Some experts suggesting the validity might not matter. If the policy is as popular as hoped, maybe there'll be a repeat of when Victoria introduced wage theft laws. Persuading the Commonwealth to introduce its own laws, and so Victoria then steps back. Now, maybe that's what we're going to see here. Business groups fear legislated working-from-home rights might make companies with operations across Australia leave Victoria, so they don't have different sets of conditions for workers in different states. When I speak to businesses who say, there seems to be a new regulation or a new tax in Victoria, they're the reasons that Victorians are losing jobs. Big businesses are doing this right now.
