Hundreds of police have been involved in pro-Palestinian demonstrators at Columbia University, New York. In a statement the university says they requested law enforcement after vandalism and disruptions on campus.

Columbia University became the latest site of intensified protests, as riot police, equipped with batons and ziplock ties, forcefully entered an academic hall through a second-floor window. The police action was aimed at pro-Palestinian protesters who had barricaded themselves inside nearly 20 hours after breaking into the building. This escalation follows a string of similar incidents across the United States, including significant violence in Texas, where police in riot gear used pepper spray on demonstrators, leading to the arrest of up to 79 students.

In response to the growing unrest, Florida's governor has implemented a zero-tolerance policy towards campus protests, directing police to arrest and disperse any protesting students at the first indication of disturbance. This stance is articulated with a warning against commandeering territory, harassing students or faculty, and violating school conduct codes, with the governor asserting that such actions would be met with expulsion.

Amidst the nationwide spike in campus protests, the White House expressed its concern over the rising violence and has called on students to consider more peaceful methods of protest. With over 60 campuses now engulfed in these protests, the administration emphasizes the need for dialogue over confrontation in addressing the issues at the heart of the student demonstrations.
