This is the largest and most comprehensive exhibition ever held on Garcia Marquez. It includes 450 pieces and documents. Many of these items have never been exhibited before. It shows how his journalism shaped his fiction and how obsessively he revised his manuscripts from Love in the Time of Cholera to Chronicle of a Death Foretold. It's striking to see how many versions of the same book existed before the final one we find in bookstores. It demystifies the idea that Garcia Marquez wrote in sudden bursts of inspiration. That wasn't the case. He put his writing through a very rigorous process of rereading, rewriting, researching, crossing out and revising. It's been 10 years since Garcia Marquez passed away, but its presence here still looms large. This exhibition isn't just a tribute to Colombia's most celebrated writer, but also a reminder that he was a journalist, a deep political thinker and a defender of the truth at a time when voices like his are as needed as ever. A voice that drew the world's most powerful, from Fidel Castro to US presidents, whom he never feared to criticise. Garcia Marquez was a man committed to great causes, who truly fought for human rights, for the release of political prisoners and for the unity and political-cultural autonomy of Latin America. In short, he's concerned not just with literary creation, but deeply with the human condition. A legacy that still surprises new generations. Today Garcia Marquez is such a towering figure, he even features on Colombia's currency, and his work remains deeply relevant.
