A significant outage at Cloudflare, a key internet infrastructure provider, led to widespread disruptions for several major websites, including X (formerly Twitter), OpenAI, Amazon, and Spotify. The outage began before 6:30 a.m. and peaked at 9:19 a.m. with over 11,000 reported incidents, gradually improving later in the morning.

Cloudflare attributed the outage to a crash in its system software and stated there was no evidence of a cyberattack or malicious activity. While the company reports that most services have been restored, some platforms continue to experience minor issues as recovery efforts continue.

Internet users, they're once again struggling with outages this morning, and this time the Internet infrastructure cloud flare was to blame. CBS News correspondent Chanel Call has been monitoring the situation from our newsroom. Chanel, what do we know about this outage? So we know, according to the website, that cloud flare is saying right now that service has been restored. They've identified the problem, and they're working to resolve it. So I'll show you what we're following on my screen here. This is the cloud flare system status. You'll see a bunch of updates here from throughout the morning, but the latest one here says we continue to see errors and latency improve, but still have reports of intermittent errors. The team, it says, continues to monitor the situation as it improves and looking for ways to accelerate full recovery. So it looks like they're on their way to a solution, but obviously there are still impacts. In fact, really big impacts that we saw earlier today. So let me show you down detector. So this is an online outage tracker Mugo on according to this tracker. You'll see here where my cursor is. This all started just before 6 30 this morning, and then you'll see that it really peaked by around 9 19. That's when there were about 11,280 reports of outages within the cloud flare systems. And then you'll see that by about 10 49. Um, so what is that? About 40 minutes ago or so? Um, there were 1800 or 1600. That is outages. So they're certainly still working through this. I also want to show you the impact that it had on some other platforms. We know that they help platforms like Spotify X, Amazon Open A. I as well. And so if you'll see here, Twitter or X was having issues around the same time that started just after six a.m. Again, really peaking by around 8 30 or nine a.m. And then it is seeming to go down right now. There are what is it? 392 reports as of now. Same with open a I. You'll see the same kind of time frame where things were peaking. So certainly had some big impacts. If you're not aware, this is a system that's a software company. Cloud flare. Essentially, it helps websites and apps just like Twitter, like open a I like Amazon to work faster and more securely on its Internet platforms. Um, as for why this happened, cloud flare is saying that this was a crash in system software. It says, quote, no evidence that there was a result of an attack or caused by malicious activity. So at this point, it's saying no, it was just some kind of software crash, and they have worked to resolve that again. They're saying services restored. But as you can see on some of the websites that we're following on down detector, there are still some small problems here and there will continue to track this for now. We'll send it back to you.
