We are a country of passion and common sense. Owners get it done. While neither team has suggested that they will change their name from the moniker as they switched to back in 2022 Trump threatened to scuttle a deal for a new stadium for the commanders and Washington DC if they don't writing on true social quote I won't make a deal for them to build a stadium in Washington. The team would be much more valuable and the deal would be more exciting for everyone. Cleveland should do the same with the Cleveland Indians. Now the commanders in District of Columbia which the federal government ultimately oversees the purse strings to are pursuing a deal to move the commanders to RFK Stadium after lawmakers transferred the land to DC as part of a funding bill. However there are still further steps needed before a plan is finalized and moved forward. House Oversight Chairman James Comer just last week urged the DC Council to complete the votes before the August recess warning that delays could quote threaten the largest private investment in DC history. Now local public hearings are scheduled for later this month on the issue here in DC but the call from President Trump comes as his administration has in part focused on name changes having reverted previous name changes when it comes to monuments and military installations for example including those that had Confederate links. Now the football team is one that has long been on Trump's radar. Back in 2013 Trump shared on what was then called Twitter quote president should not be telling the Washington Redskins to change their name our country has far bigger problems focus on them not nonsense. Now according to USA Today the Guardians president of baseball operations over the weekend said he wasn't aware of the president's comments but that changing the name wasn't something he had been tracking.
