Clark County Clerk Lynn Goya got the idea to find those who had been married in Las Vegas back in 2022 when the county marked 5,000,000 weddings.

Clark County, home to Las Vegas, is undertaking an effort to archive the stories of the more than 5 million couples who have married there. County Clerk Lynn Marie Goya emphasized the importance of capturing these personal accounts, noting that each marriage represents a unique love story, regardless of its outcome.

To celebrate this history, the county hosts an annual vow renewal ceremony for couples married in Las Vegas. The tradition of Las Vegas as a wedding destination dates back decades, with the earliest known reference to it as the 'wedding capital of the world' appearing in 1953. Residents and visitors are encouraged to share their wedding stories through a dedicated online portal.

They're one of millions of couples who have gotten their marriage license in Clark County, and the clerk, Lynn Marie Goya, wants all of those stories archived. Every couple has a story, and whether the marriage ended in divorce or something else, they were in love when they came. And really, it's the love story that we care about. So much so, the county started hosting an annual vow renewal ceremony for those who have gotten married in Las Vegas. It's a fun event where people get to get together, share their story, have fun, renew their vows, and just celebrate being part of the Las Vegas history. A history Goya says goes back to even before the county was founded in 1909, though it wasn't until 1953, in the London Daily Herald, that county leaders found the earliest reference of Las Vegas as the wedding capital of the world. The wedding industry is such an integral part of what turned this dusty frontier town into a major global glamorous destination that it's my opinion that we want to document as many of those 5 million love stories as possible.
