It will be Modi's first visit since 2018. The improving cooperation between China and India is gaining momentum as New Delhi's relationship with the United States comes under added strain. US President Donald Trump has imposed a 50% tariff on Indian goods, citing Modi's purchase of Russian oil. Analysts say the move has pushed India towards Beijing. Chinese nationals can now apply for visas to India. And Beijing has resumed access to Tibet for Indian pilgrims. Indian authorities are also discussing relaxing restrictions on Chinese investment. And both countries have announced plans to resume direct flights, routes that were suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic. Foreign Minister Wang Yi's visit is an opportunity to work with India, properly handle differences and promote the sustained, healthy and stable developments of China-India relations. But some believe cooperation between India and China will be limited by long-standing differences, including deep mistrust dating back to a border war in 1962 and Beijing's supply of fighter jets to Pakistan, planes that were reportedly used during a military standoff with India in May.
