Two childcare workers from the Strong Start Early Learning Centre in south Wentworthville, Sydney, have been charged with assaulting a 17-month-old child on separate occasions on the same day. Police began their investigation after receiving a report that the child had been injured at the centre.

A 42-year-old woman has been charged with common assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, while a 32-year-old woman faces a charge of common assault. Parents and guardians were recently notified of the allegations and expressed shock. Both women are scheduled to appear in court.

Now, child abuse detectives started investigating this matter in June. That's when they received a report that a 17-month-old child had been injured at that centre. Now, the centre didn't want to comment further on those allegations today, but parents and guardians of children at the centre today told me that they'd just been notified of these allegations and they're shocked. Now, the two women that have been charged, a 42-year-old woman, she's been charged with common assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, while a 32-year-old woman, she's been charged with common assault.
