Chas Mostert won his third consecutive Supercars race at Sandown Raceway, ensuring his qualification for the inaugural Grand Final and moving to the top of the overall standings. Teammate Ryan Wood played a crucial defensive role, helping Mostert maintain his lead despite pressure from Will Brown, who started 15th and made significant gains during the race.

The event also highlighted the retirement of Garth Tander, a six-time Bathurst winner and 2007 Supercars Champion, capping off a distinguished career. With only seven drivers remaining in the competition, three will be eliminated in the next round.

Victory in one of Bathurst's greatest ever races, the cherry on top of Garth Tander's incredible career. I basically went as though I'm enjoying this as though it's my last one. It was a nice fitting way to say that's it, done and dusted. The 48-year-old was a six-time winner on Mount Panorama, the Supercars Champion in 2007, and stood on top of the podium 58 times across his career. I still remember as a 21-year-old kid qualifying 16th at Phillip Island next to Dick Johnson for my very first ever race, stalling it on the grid and I was last at the first corner. I always said if I get to the north of 40 when I was young, if I get north of 40, I'll be happy with that. On the track at Sandown, the first spot in the Supercars Grand Final was up for grabs. No time to play nice. Look at Brownie go in there, the little mongrel, hey, the little attack dog from Toowoomba. Chas Mostard held a comfortable lead for most of the race, but Will Brown, who qualified 15th, came charging. Chas Mostard's team-mate Ryan Wood playing defence for as long as he could. This is the one, it's on! On the run out of turn four and there's side-to-side contact and it's on, it's on on the run out of turn four. It's got him. And Brown gets up one spot. Wood's efforts enough to seal the race. And Chas Mostard has put together the numbers today and a brilliant victory at Sandown Raceway. The win is Mostard's third in a row and secures his spot in the inaugural Grand Final. I tell you what, I owe Woody a beer tonight. He saved my bacon out there, so I'm just struggling for a little bit of rear tyre life, but yeah, just so glad to hang on. Mostard now leads the overall standings. Three of the seven remaining drivers will be eliminated by tomorrow evening. James Ingram, 10 News.
