Samuel John Rocco Marchesa has been charged in connection with the murder, with prosecutors alleging financial motives and a plan to target Hamze's brother. The trial has included testimony from a woman who was with Hamze at the time, as well as another witness who reported hearing multiple gunshots and seeing a vehicle at the scene. The accused has pleaded not guilty, and the trial is ongoing.

Samuel John Rocco Marchesa was arrested and charged over the gangland hit, with the Crown alleging he stood to gain $270,000 for the murder, and a plan to murder his brother, Ibrahim Hamzy. He has pleaded not guilty. The woman told the Supreme Court trial, After they left the restaurant, we were laughing and looking for cabs. I heard a bang. I've never heard anything like it. I heard another bang and then he started running. I ran too because Bill was running. As the woman sought shelter in this stairwell, Bilal Hamzy was hit with three bullets to his stomach, right hip and through his arm before stumbling and falling to the ground while she screamed for help. I saw him face down on the footpath. I ran up to Bill and touched his arm and back and I was screaming stop and help. I kept saying make noise, make noise. I didn't know what to do. She was asked about calls she received from another man around the time of the shooting. The court also heard from the woman who made the triple zero call. She said she heard 10 shots and witnessed a vehicle continuing to drive back and forth as Bilal lay on the ground. The trial continues. Sarah Navin, 10 News.
